Going my way?

Cholla cacti in the foreground, but let's face it, this photo (from guest photographer Bob Connolly) is about the sign on the side of this mountain in the Usery Mountain Regional Park, east of Phoenix. The sign was created in the '50s as a navigational aid to pilots. More photos from Bob over the coming days.

A prickly subject

It's hard to resist photographing the Saguaro. Each individual cactus seems to have a personality. On a recent hike in the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona, it occurred to me that I could indulge my impulse to snap away if I created a blog for the photos -- even if only for my own enjoyment. So here we go with A Cactus a Day. You'll find many Saguaro, but also other interesting cacti. Some of the photos are about documentation, but I hope many also will be visually pleasing. I don't have quite enough to last a year, But, then again, if I run out I'll have an excuse to travel to the southwest and collect some more photos of cacti.
